volunteers, officials and competitors that has developed over many decades. Our National Motorsport Week provided an opportunity to reflect on that wider picture and to remind people that motorsport is far more accessible than many imagine. There is a motorsport for everyone.
Research tells us that 26.2 million people in Britain consider themselves motorsport fans. Yet fewer than half realise they can actively take part. That is a remarkable statistic when you consider the opportunities available across our 14 disciplines. Whether your interest lies in competing, marshalling, officiating, engineering, volunteering or becoming involved through a local club, there is a route into the sport for almost everyone.
Other sports have long understood the connection between watching and participating. Wimbledon inspires people to pick up a tennis racket. Major football tournaments encourage children to join their local clubs. Motorsport should be no different. Every Formula 1 fan, every rally enthusiast, and every spectator at a hill climb or sprint meeting should know that there is a place for them within our community if they want it.
