TRIBUTE
Julian Grimwade
It is with great sadness that Motorsport UK confirmed the death of Julian Grimwade, who was competing at the Vintage Sports- Car Club’ s( VSCC) race event at Donington Park last month.
The VSCC paid tribute to Julian:
Julian Grimwade was a man who left a mark, and he leaves an enormous one now on all of us who knew him.
He joined the Vintage Sports-Car Club in 2007, an active and successful competitor, Julian was well known across the vintage racing world and brought great colour, character and courage to the paddock. He was also a long-standing member of the Bentley Drivers Club for more than twenty years, and he played an important role at Brooklands.
prepared for a day where we lose one of our own. We lost not only a much-loved competitor and pillar of our community, but a great friend. Julian’ s absence leaves a cigar-smoking, wine-swirling shape in all our lives.
To Julian, thank you. You brought such joy and richness to so many. We will carry your memory forward, and we will miss you dearly.
Motorsport UK joins the entire UK motorsport community in mourning and sends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Julian, as well as the Vintage Sports-Car Club.
He was, quite simply, a man of immense generosity, warmth and energy, a true gentleman and a loyal friend. Julian approached life with full commitment. He also embraced life with enormous enthusiasm. Julian loved a good party and told a cracking story. Few could match his competitive drive from his much-loved 1929 Bentley 4½ and Lagonda Rapier, to earning countless trophies in his Frazer Nash Norris Special. He even brought historic racing to a wider audience through his appearances on television as part of the Brooklands TV series. He made it all look effortless.
The outpouring of support in recent days has been overwhelming, from within the VSCC, across the wider motorsport community, and beyond. Motorsport can be dangerous. We all know that but none of us are ever truly
