Greenpower at Mallory Park
Last month, a team from Motorsport UK had the pleasure of visiting Mallory Park for the Greenpower Education F24 and F24 + heat. Greenpower empowers young people aged-9-to-25 to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths( STEM) through the inspirational challenge of designing, building, and racing their own electric singleseater vehicles. The championship runs annually from April to October, offering hands-on experience that brings STEM learning to life.
As part of the event, the Motorsport UK team helped train two environmental volunteers to use the carbon calculator and measured the emissions of the day. It was fantastic to see so many students passionate about engineering, and deeply engaged in sustainability. One school even displayed their car’ s MPGe and CO₂e for each race directly on the bodywork— a brilliant example of how sustainability can be meaningfully integrated into engineering.
A huge thank you to the schools and Greenpower team and for welcoming us, showing us around, and giving the volunteers the chance to get involved – one even got to wave the green flag!

Hydrogen power at Le Mans
To de-carbonise motor racing, particularly endurance racing, the Automobile Club de l’ Ouest( ACO) has opted for hydrogen, with the goal of creating a hydrogen category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship by 2028.
Data capture at the Plains Rally
Last month, Motorsport UK’ s Sustainability Assistant Lowenna Cleary made the trip to Bala in North Wales to visit the Plains Rally. Upon arrival Les and Sue showed her around, visiting the noise testing bay and received a demonstration on the noise test, and Cleary saw on how the data capture for the carbon calculator worked.
A trip to scrutineering followed, and Cleary was able to meet the event team who discussed the pre-event set up that goes preparing the rally, and how the team work with the forestry bodies.
On Saturday, Cleary was invited to ride in the Safety Car and helped ensure that none of the spectators were in danger. This was a great privilege, and a good way to see the rally route first-hand. This was followed by a fascinating stint in Rally Control, learning how the team respond to incidents remotely.
Motorsport UK sends its thanks Knutsford & District Motor Club for being so welcoming and assisting Cleary on her journey to understand how to capture carbon emissions data at a rally event.

Before this pioneering date, spectators at Le Mans can enjoy the Hydrogen Village, which will feature racing prototypes, and a 700-bar TotalEnergies hydrogen station that will provide public refuelling, as well as information and displays on hydrogen mobility, which is already very real, on two or four wheels, in the air, space, or on water.
MissionH24 is the collaboration between the ACO and H24Project, where Alpine, Ligier- Bosch, and Toyota, will present their hydrogen programs, with spectacular vehicles, while spectators will be able to see that it is already possible to ride a bicycle, a motorcycle, a car, a hydrogen bus, or to fly and navigate using hydrogen.
