FEDI Cup Esport Championship launched
The Formula Equity Diversity and Inclusion( FEDI) Cup will be launching next month, offering greater opportunities for drivers from all backgrounds to compete in esports and try out motorsport.
The championship, run by Brownstone Communications and supported by Motorsport UK in its pilot year, seeks to provide more opportunities for more girls and young people from underrepresented communities to compete in motorsport – with esports chosen as the best platform to launch this opportunity.
The event will take place online, at a range of much-loved virtual UK circuits with entries open to drivers aged 13 years-old and upwards.
Unique to FEDI, each driver will be able to choose between two car classes – either GT in the Porsche Cup car or Single-Seater F4, with both classes racing on track at the same time. Drivers will only score points against the same cars in their class.
“ We have identified that esports is a realistic way to bring more racial, socio economic and gender diversity to the motorsport universe”, noted Barbara Phillips, Founder of Brownstone Communications.“ Natural racing skill and talent can be found in every- body and in our Championship that includes, every background, race and all genders. It has been a long time coming and we are excited to see where we can take this.”
Paul Crawford, Head of Esports, Motorsport UK, added,“ Esports provides a fantastic starting point for anyone looking to try out motorsport, thanks to its accessibility and lower price-point on entry. We are looking forward to welcoming even more drivers to the virtual grid and hope to see even more talent take on the FEDI Cup Esport Championship this July.”
