ENDURANCE RACING
“ You need to look after the car in a 24-Hour race because one of the worst things that could happen is somebody goes and breaks the car so badly it prevents other team drivers from taking their turn. This is even more important when you have guest drivers, so it was all about making sure the people who joined us could race competitively but cleanly.
“ I spoke to them all on the phone, checking they had a race licence and understanding what C1 racing they had done in the past. I also talked to them about our philosophy and how we work together as a team, because I wanted people that would fit in and gel with us. I put a lot of effort into finding the right people.” in 2003 and Alan Gow did it years ago. He was quoted as saying‘ if the Touring Cars had racing like this it would be fantastic’ and in fact, I think he took his Touring Car model from 2CV racing!”
The C1 event has also had its fair share of famous drivers on its grid, including Andy Priaulx, and his son Seb, European GT racer Seb Morris and Olympic cyclist turned racing driver Sir Chris Hoy, while Welsh cites BTCC drivers Josh Cook, Jade Edwards, Tom Ingram and Aidan Moffat as regulars.

Mears was unable to race in the 24-Hour event but he and Crockett made sure the car was thoroughly prepared. Alongside regular team-mates Crockett and Adam Norris, Langley added Trevor Hurrell, an experienced driver who had previously competed in a 24-Hour race; Matt Ford, a teacher and part-time Supercar Experience Days coach; and Paul Bishop, who competed in a C1 last season.
Langley made sure the newcomers had a chance to get used to the car by booking them into the Friday testing session, but he reflects:“ We did not have time to do any pre-event testing and at the event, testing, qualifying and night practice are no longer than 90 minutes for each session.”
