The buzz you get from spending half an hour on an indoor kart track – whether it’ s at a birthday party, stag or hen event, or a corporate race day – always leaves you wanting more. The speed, the adrenaline of the wheel-towheel action and, for some, the thrill of victory, is addictive but that one-off experience is often where it ends.

Motorsport UK’ s Recognised Karting Pathway was developed to ensure that doesn’ t have to be the case, helping more people take their first step into motorsport.

Outdoor karting is now far more attainable, with competitive rental racing changing the game. It offers an accessible step beyond recreational karting and has established itself as an important part of the sport, while also providing a potential route into licensed owner-driver competition through clearly defined, manageable steps.

Launched in 2020, Motorsport UK’ s Recognised Karting Pathway was designed to signpost people towards new areas of the sport, offering clear, manageable steps through karting. The pathway was recently expanded through a collaboration with Daytona Motorsport, recognising its InKart, SuperChamps and Jamie Chadwick Series alongside Motorsport UK-permitted arrive-and-drive championships. These include the Daniel Ricciardo Series, the electricpowered F. A. T. Karting League – founded by F1 engineer Rob Smedley – and Club100, all of which offer competitive, high-performance rental karting experiences.

Aspiring drivers of all ages now have a clear route to follow. as John Vigor, founder of Club100, explains:“ People start at their local indoor circuit, catch the bug and then think,‘ I want to go faster, where’ s my local outdoor track?’ Once they gain more experience and are looking to race on a variety of circuits, they can step up to something like Club 100 which will involve travelling the country, but all still within the‘ arrive-and-drive’ format.”
