INVESTMENT IN ITS MEMBERS AND FACILITIES ALLIED TO A WELCOMING APPROACH HAVE HELPED WIGTON MOTOR CLUB GROW ITS COMMUNITY AND TURN FIRST-TIME VISITORS INTO LONG-TERM MEMBERS.

PORT

N ational Motorsport Week inspired clubs across the country to encourage the recruitment of newcomers as part of our‘ There’ s a Motorsport for Everyone’ campaign. For Wigton Motor Club, embracing this initiative has generated an immediate and positive boost.

The club ran three events during National Motorsport Week, including a cars and coffee monthly meeting at their headquarters, The Motor House.“ To make it a bit different, we invited members with competition cars to come,” Club Secretary Graeme Forrester explained.“ We had people from autotesting, targa rallying, and car trials there to talk about their cars and what they did. We attracted quite a few extra people, a lot more youngsters.
“ We coordinated with the local kart club at Rowrah, taking one of their‘ let’ s go karting’ sessions. We paid for 15 of our youngsters to have a 15-minute session, with the option of a second paid-for session, and almost all took it up. The younger teenagers go with their parents already on targa rallies and production car autotests, so that was very successful.
